Ribbon cut on Cedartown Career Center

March 4, 2010 – Department of Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond was joined by local and state officials in cutting the ribbon on the new CareerCenter in Cedartown. The commissioner told those gathered for the ceremony that the new facility will enable the DOL staff to better serve job seekers, employers and vocational rehabilitation clients in Polk and Haralson counties.

The CareerCenter provides access to computers, the Internet and other electronic tools to help customers achieve employment and career goals. The facility provides employment-related services for employers and job seekers, including job referrals, resume preparation assistance, career exploration, labor market information, job search, interview preparation, as well as training and education referral programs.  Also provided are assistive technologies for persons with disabilities, counseling for the deaf or hearing impaired, the blind or visually impaired and those with mental health disabilities.

The 9,062-square-foot center features two training rooms, technology resource areas and a business center where employers can interview potential employees, conduct meetings and access copiers, faxes and computers.

The project incorporated several sustainable practices, including construction waste recycling, an energy efficient HVAC system, closed-cell foam insulation, drought tolerant landscaping and low water use plumbing fixtures.
