Murphy replica office dedicated
April 19, 2012 - State elected officials, dignitaries and special guests gathered at the University of West Georgia to dedicate the replica of the late Georgia Speaker of the House Tom Murphy's State Capitol office. The special Murphy exhibit was built at the school's Irvine S. Ingram Library on the Carrollton campus and was part of the recently completed $8 million renovation of the library.
Murphy was a long time Georgia House Speaker and Bremen native, serving in the top state legislative spot for 29 years. Murphy continuously served as speaker of the House longer than any other individual in the nations history.
Murphy donated his political papers and memorabilia from his office to the university in 2003 after retiring.
"Tom Murphy was a giant in Georgia history," said current Speaker of the House David Ralston. "His (replica) office will remind people of the legacy of one man & Murphys shadow extends all the way across Georgia and he left his mark in a way that will last forever."
