GSFIC Projects Overall CMAA Winner
[June 21, 2011] - Three Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission projects were recognized by the South Atlantic Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America during its annual banquet and awards program at the Georgia Aquarium.
The KennesawStateUniversityHealthSciencesBuilding received both the Project Achievement Award for projects between $30 and $50 million and was named Overall Winner, tying with the Georgia Aquarium – Dolphin Expansion.
The new prep school at the GeorgiaMilitaryCollege received the Project Achievement Award for projects between $10 and $30 million and Georgia Gwinnett College Library received the Honors Award in that same category.
The annual South Atlantic Chapter Construction Management Project Achievement Awards program recognizes outstanding achievement in the practice of construction management. The awards program is designed to recognize and promote professionalism and excellence in the management of the construction process. Awards are given to CM practitioners for projects and programs that reflect this mission.

Kennesaw State University's WellStar College of Health and Human Services officially moved into its new home in August, 2010. The 193,000-square-foot facility houses the Health Sciences Building WellStar School of Nursing, one of the state’s top producers of nurses. The $56 million building was built with $47 million in state support, a $300,000 federal grant, and a generous collection of private donations. The expansive, four-story facility includes 15 health and science libraries, nursing lab space, pediatric labs, nine classrooms and six seminar rooms, four computer labs and an auditorium.

Georgia Military College's new 70,111-square-foot building provides a centralized state-of-the-art learning facility for the entire preparatory school program, grades six through 12, which was previously scattered throughout five campus buildings. The facility is three stories tall with 36 classrooms, each equipped with a 95-inch Promethean interactive white board, three science labs, two computer labs, two music rooms, administrative and counseling offices, a courtyard, a space for Junior ROTC training and a Health Services Center.

Georgia Gwinnett College’s new, state-of-the-art Library and Learning Center is a $28.3 million, 95,370-square-foot building designed to house 300,000 volumes and a fusion of digital and print library holdings. The building contains technologically advanced classrooms, a presentation practice room, 38 private study rooms, a seminar room, a quiet reading room and a coffee shop.
