Doors open at Columbus Tech
October 8, 2010 - Columbus celebrated the grand opening of the 78,000-square-foot Robert L. Wright, Jr. Health Sciences Center a ribbon-cutting and student-lead tours of the new facility.
The health sciences center is named after Columbus philanthropist, entrepreneur and generous donor, Dr. Robert L. Wright, Jr. This important public-private venture was the result of a successful fundraising campaign called Tomorrow’s Workforce… Today that raised approximately $10 million. Another $16.28 million was earmarked for the project in 2008 by Georgia legislators.
Columbus Technical College president Bob Jones said the success of this project proves the college’s dedication to the people it serves.
“This state-of-the-art facility, that many believe to be the finest in our system and the region, tells our community that Columbus Technical College is committed to the long term growth of its services while maintaining the highest standards possible in education and training,” Jones said.
The center will train students in the fields of nursing, dental hygiene, radiology and respiratory care. The school has approximately 4,000 students, half of whom are enrolled in health sciences programs.
