Department of Juvenile Justice Breaks Ground on New Regional Youth Detention Center

A ceremony was held today to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new Department of Juvenile Justice regional youth detention center in Wilkes County.  The campus will include the renovation of an existing 26,000 square foot building that will include: administrative offices, multipurpose visitation room, intake/holding area, central control, medical, laundry, kitchen, dining hall, classrooms, library and teacher work rooms.

In addition, a new housing facility will be constructed that consists of three 16 bed units. There will also be a new gymnasium, vocational education building, outdoor recreation areas, installation of perimeter security fencing and installation of a CCTV system throughout the buildings and grounds.
